Hello, I'm Michael. Thank you for visiting my website!
I have been a working theater professional since 1990 as a teacher, playwright, director, improviser, actor, and in theater administration. As a guest speaker and enrichment specialist, I have 10 years under my belt. My B.F.A. in Acting & Directing came from Texas Christian University and since 1994 I’ve been the Artistic and Education director for New Moon Productions Theater Company. I have tens of thousands of hours of classroom experience as a theater and improvisation teacher, leading hundreds of workshops, classes, and summer camps.
As a theater and improvisation teacher and director, I have extensive experience working with both youth and adults. Beyond New Moon Productions, in the USA I have worked as a teacher at: Portland Actors Conservatory, Dallas Children's Theater, Lakewood Theater, Creative Arts Theater and School, Multnomah Arts Center, Cathedral School, Portland Parks & Recreation, Hip Pocket Theater, Odyssey of the Mind, and many schools in Portland Oregon and Dallas Texas.
I currently live in Portland Oregon, and for 3 years I lived in Frankfurt Germany. My time in Europe has lead to doing many workshops through the English Theater of Frankfurt along with offering many improv/theater workshops for students (along with directing plays). Many workshops are geared towards students wishing to have a fun and creative way to practice English. Workshops in Frankfurt include: European School of Frankfurt, Weissfrauenschule, Rackow School, English Theater of Frankfurt, Link 'n' Learn, Theater Language Studio, and Frankfurt English Speaking Theater.
Over the last ten years, I have been leading workshops using theater & improvisation as a means of community building, team-building, and for ESL (English as a Second Language). Since 2014, I have been leading improv, community building, and team-building workshops on board Cruise Ships.
As a playwright, I have written or adapted dozens of full length plays (all of which have been produced) and hundreds of short plays and scenes for students. Several of my works have been published (take a look at my playwright page).
My directing credits include hundreds of plays in many theater venues in Portland Oregon, Dallas/Fort Worth area in Texas, in Frankfurt Germany, and dozens more in educational theater. As an actor, I have been seen on many stages in Dallas/Fort Worth and have made a few appearances here in Portland. My favorite roles include the Scarecrow in Wizard of Oz, Hamlet in Hamlet, The Third Man in The Baltimore Waltz, Iago in Othello, Stafford in Sisterly Feelings, and Benedick in Much Ado About Nothing.
It is my pleasure to continue working as the Education and Artistic Director of New Moon Productions. I also spend a lot of time being a guest speaker and enrichment specialist on cruise ships. There's also my teaching work with theater and improvisation, doing workshops, teaching ESL improv & theater, writing plays, and directing shows. My work takes me all over the world with workshops and personal appearances at venues producing my plays. What a great life!
